Lost City of the Incas?

Tourism in Machu Picchu, Peru is a key case study for GCSE Geography students. Secret of the Incas (1954) was filmed in and around Cusco, Peru and footage was filmed of Machu Picchu. It is a historical record of a time when Peruvian tourism was very much in its infancy. In this scene Harry Steele (Charlton Heston) and Elena (Nicole Maurey) walk up from the Urabamba river and refer to Machu Picchu as being a place nobody comes up to. Machu Picchu now receives 100s of 1000s of visitors each year. What are the physical and human attractions of Machu Picchu? What impact has a growth in tourism had on local people and their environment? How has Machu Picchu changed since 1954?

Year 9 History students will shortly be making their own decision. This will form part of their last History assessment, and help to determine their End of Key Stage Level.
View the clip and post your thoughts: was America right to drop the bomb?

A2 - Theodices Revision

Exciting opportunity & good revision activity - look at the picture and write a short paragraph explaining how it is linked to Augustine's Theodicy for explaining the existence of both natural and moral evil in the world. You could even print it off and label it (especially if you are a visual learner). Bring this work to lesson and there could be rewards and everything!
