The sun sends solar radiation down to earth, where most of this is absorbed, however some is reflected back out.
The earth them emits infrared rays as it is warmed, much of this is reflected back out to space, but 30% stays within earth, as the rays are reflected back due to the thick layer of greenhouse gases, therefore warmed the earth further, so as the greenhouse gases keep building up, the earth will continue to become warmer, ice caps will begin to melt at a faster rate, raising the sea level around the world quicker, endangering large amounts of costal land around the world!
