Below is a trailer for a film that was made recently about a young German boy who makes an unlikely friend during World War Two.
Watch this trailer and comment on the two thinking points below;
What new information do you think we could learn about the Holocaust from this film? Think, whose point of view is the story told from?
Why do you think there has been so many films about the Holocaust in recent years?

The film tells us how the children of Germany at the time would have been told what the holocaust was about.
There has been lots of films made about the holocaust because it is one of the most evil things that has happend in modern history.
We can learn a lot of information from this new film because it is from a different viewpoint. It can show us that life was very difficult for children because they struggle to know who are the right people to be friends with. They don't know the difference between which children can be their friends and which children have to be their enemies.
I think that there has been a lot of films about the Holocaust recently because film makers want to address a serious event in history from a variety of viewpoints. They don't want to show the Holocaust from Nazi or Jewish people's viewpoints all the time. They want a variety of viewpoints which is why they chose to do it from a child's pont of view.
I think it shows how the Holocaust effected children as well as adults. The film shows the innocence of some children, Jewish and Non-Jewish.
There has been alot of films about the Holocaust because survivors of the Holocaust are dying now, and they want this piece of History to be passed down. People would never forget the horrors of the Holocaust, and the films are 'references' for the future to use, when all surviviors of the Holocaust die.
We could learn about the differnt side of the Holocaust. Noramlly it is told from a Jews point of view but in this film it is the other way round.
There have been so many films about the Holocaust because at the moment there are lots of problems going on too, like in Darfur and in Rwanda. They are making lots of films about World War Two to remind everyone what it was like, and so that nothing as bad will berak out again.

THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION IS THAT WE CAN SEE THE CHILDRENS POINT OF VIEW AND HOW THEY REACT WITHIN THE CAMP.(TO THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE GUARDS)
Why do you think there has been so many films about the Holocaust in recent years?
BECAUSE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE HOLOCOST, BUT THEY DO NOT KNOW ABOUT SPECIFIC DETAILS. ALSO BECAUSE NOW MORE EVIDENCE HAS BEEN COMING THROUGH MORE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ARE BEING ASKED ABOUT THE HOLOCOST!

You learn the childs point of view and how they used propaganda.
Why do you think there has been so many films about the Holocaust in recent years?
Because it was an important part in history and people should know about it to try stop it from happening again.
we could learn more infomration because it is told be the little boys point of view looking in at the jews and we would learn what the people on the outside of the concentration camps think and i think a lot of films have come out about the holocaust is because it will teach people to understand today what happened back then and we can see it from different peoples points of views
p.s couldn't work out to sign it in so left it anonymous By Jamie Wardman
I think, judging from this trailer, that it shows you how far the war has come in order for children to be put in a concentration camps. I also think that the way that the aryan child refers the jewish childs clothes as "pyjamas" just goes to show how some people were kept in the dark and when the aryan boy found out what was happening it showed how all other countries felt after they found out what was happening to the jews, which is why asylum seekers are aloud in the country at all times.

That none of the kids who wernt in pyjamas were told that the people in pyjamas, good things were happening to them when they werent. i think this is told from both of ther sides but mainly the boy who isnt in pyjamas because hes trying to find out whats going on. I think there has been so many films on it because it changed the world and people are starting to see what it was really like. JL.
we could learn that the jews and the germans werent allowed to be friends
I think that we can learn lots from this film because it's told from a different point of view. Stories are usually told form the victims point of view. I know the boy in this film wasn't bad himself, but his family was.
There have been so many films about the Holocaust in recent years because things are happening right now that are like the Holocaust. There is still racial discrimination and there is a crisis in Darfur going on too at the moment. The movies coming out are to remind people to treat everyone as equals, because otherwise another war could start.
I think we could learn what it was like from a Nazi soldier's son view and how it effects his life on what he is told to do or not to do.
I think there have been so many films based on the Holocaust in recent years because everyone who was involved in the war will be dying now because they are so old.
I think that films can make good evidence as they are based on real events but they also only tell one side of the story and are dramatized.

I think that films can make good evidence because they tell you factual events that happened, but sometimes are inaccurate because they are over exageratedm to appeal to the audience.
the film is showing what it was like to be in the holocaust as an child. Some films are very useful for us because they can show learning in a different prespctive. Films however can also be too dramati and can skip out some facts thay had actually happened and they only make the films to entertain.
Excellent comments Year 9 you are clearly thinking about the lessons we can all learn from the Holocaust - I was also impressed with your interest today at the Holocaust Centre. Well done!
Remember we should respect everyone is different and this needs celebrating!
